Phoenix Fire
Meet Phoenix Fire - handspun and hand dye Targhee wool!
This 21 micron wool was spun on my SpinOlution Echo as a natural, creamy roving. The singles were chain-plied into this 3-ply, heavy-worsted weight yarn with superior SPRING! After spinning, the hanks were washed and then dyed with Dharma acid dyes in two batches. And then it happened -- the same dyes, the same wool, different colors because they batched a little differently! The shades are all the same, but two hanks are much deeper/darker than the other two. Please choose whether you would like a dark or light hank to add to your cart.
Each hank is 4oz and approximately 140 yards. While winding, I tested the hanks to measure wraps per inch (wpi) and they measure at 10 wpi. According to the Ashford gauge guide, this is a worsted weight yarn, and I consider it heavy worsted to Aran weight. I always suggest swatching as even some of the most consistent handspun yarns will have variations in gauge.
This roving had more vegetable matter in it than I anticipated and while I was able to remove most of it, there will inevitably still be a small amount in the yarn. Because of this, I am selling these hanks at a discount!
Pictures are taken outdoors in natural light and the yarn was spun in a smoke-free, pet friendly home. They have been washed, dried, and reskeined for accurate weight and length measurements. My yarns are never weighted to dry.
This yarn is available as-is in hank form or it can be wound off into a ball. Note that if it is wound off into a ball it is NON RETURNABLE for any reason. To have the yarn wound into a ball, please add the service to your cart here: Ball Winding Service
Care instructions: To prevent extreme shrinkage and felting, hand wash gently in cold water, lay flat to dry. Do not put in a dryer. Do not agitate vigorously in water. Do not ring out -- press flat to express excess water.
